- As the capital of Germany, Berlin has been popular in many diverse aspects – historical associations, vibrant nightlife, numerous museums and palaces plus more.

- Berlin is described as a beautiful place with several things to offer. Furthermore, it is also noted as a young city. Adding to the uniqueness of Berlin is its reputation of being packed with people from different parts of the world.
Cost of Living:
- Compared to other Western European capital cities, Berlin is cheaper particularly in terms of rent with about $600 per month for single-bedroom accommodations. Three-bedroom apartments cost about $1600 to $1800 every month.
- Meals are reasonably priced as well. Fast food and sit-down meals have a price range of $9 to $11 per person. A meal for two persons that includes three courses would cost about $45.
Poker:
- US tourists can play online poker but only through international websites as internet gambling in Germany is illegal.
Internet Access/Speed:
- Internet cafes are found all throughout the city. Most bars and restaurants provide free Wi-Fi. Internet speed is topnotch.
Weather:
- It is pleasantly warm during summer in Berlin. From May until August, the city enjoys a day of sunshine. However, July to August may have unpredictable weather. Sunny days may turn into rainy days.
- Winters may be terribly cold and damp. Cold, clear and frosty days are expected during this season of the year.
U.S. Visa/Entry Difficulty Level:
- US tourists can stay in Berlin for a maximum of three months without any visa. Usual requirements apply: US passport and travel documents.
Language:
- German is the most widely spoken language in Berlin. However, information in English can be easily found.
Language Schools:
- Visiting Berlin is a good opportunity to learn German, either with the help of locals or through language schools.
Banking:
- The banking system of Berlin is a bit different from other English-speaking countries. Purchases are mostly made through cash. Checks are hardly known while credit cards are intended for special transactions like car hire.
- US tourists will need to carry cash when shopping and dining. There are several ATMs all over the place that accept international cards.
Food:
- Currywurst is a main dish in Berlin. This dish is a bratwurst that is coated in ketchup as well as curry powder. Currywurst is a must-try for all tourists.
- Eating out does not cost that much and the range of food is excellent. Each cuisine from all over the world is represented in the city but modified to fit the German taste.
Recreation:
- With special treats and deals for everyone, Berlin has proven deserving of being called an international city.
- Going to the two zoos in Berlin will be a wonderful way to spend a portion of one’s vacation. Berlin Zoo features panda bears and other fascinating animals. There is also an aquarium that is home to spectacular varieties of fish, crocodiles and more. It is recorded as the largest in Germany.
- Berlin has a monthly paper called Exberliner, which details the recommended destinations in the place plus the ideal time of visit. The great number of options will fill a whole vacation trip.
- Parks are abundant in Berlin and are particularly attractive during summer. These parks are often full of people especially on weekends. Tiergarten, Viktoriapark and Schlossgarten Charlottenburg are some of the suggested parks to visit.
- In Berlin, US tourists have the pleasure of playing almost all types of sports – football, basketball, sailing, golf, ice hockey, floorball and a lot more.
Safety:
- Berlin is a relatively safe place. However, some areas like Lichtenberg and Marzahn can be quite rough.
- Pickpockets are common in public transportation places as well as tourist areas. This is especially true during rush hours.
- Precautions must be taken properly. Other than these petty crimes, Berlin is a safe and wonderful place to visit.
