- Guangzhou is the capital city Guangdong Province, China. It ranks third for the largest cities in the country, next to Shanghai and Beijing.
- The city is known to be very competitive in terms of foreign trade and other business doings. It owns the largest trade fair in the country called the Canton Fair. Furthermore, Guangzhou owns China’s largest urban park.
- It is acknowledged as one of the richest, most liberal and diverse cities in China.

The Life:
- Guangzhou is viewed as a flourishing city with seemingly never-ending skyscrapers, shopping malls as well as tall buildings. Behind all these is the city’s rich culture and history.
- The city many not be one of the most travelled tourist destinations in Asia but it amazingly offers a lot for tourists.
- Residents of the city developed a laid back life probably because of its distance from the political centers of China.
Cost of Living:
- Visiting Guangzhou is pretty cheap. US tourists can avail of a good meal for $2 to $4. Midrange restaurants offer meals for two at $15.
- Apartment fees are inexpensive too. Anyone can get an accommodation outside the city for $88 while an apartment in the city center costs $280 every month. Three-bedroom apartments can be as low as $330 and as high as $1200.
Poker:
- Online poker is hard to play in Guangzhou but live poker in Macau is just two to three hours away by bus.
Internet Speed:
- Internet speed is not good enough to play online poker.
Weather:
- The humidity level of the city is very high during summer. The months of October and November as well as April and May are the ideal dates of travel to Guangzhou.
U.S. Visa/Entry Difficulty Level:
- A visa is required for US tourists and application requirements may slightly differ from state to state in the US.
- Multi-entry visas may easily be obtained but that should make tourists leave the country every after two or three months. Visa renewal can be done in Hong Kong.
Language:
- Cantonese is the main language in Guangzhou similar to that in Hong Kong. Standard Mandarin is widely spoken as well.

- Cantonese food is most known for its unique blend of color and fragrance coupled with delectable taste and creative presentation.
- Its delicate pastry called dim sum is popular for its simplicity yet is well-admired for its delicious taste.
- Restaurants in Guangzhou offer various selection of food. US tourists can order as much as they can and opt to take away any leftovers packed in a microwavable container and be brought home.
Recreation:
- There are a number of attractions in Guangzhou. Some of its must-see landmarks include the Guangxiao Temple, Liurong Temple and the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall. There are also museums and galleries that US tourists can visit. They consist of the Guangdong Museum Art, Guangzhou Sculpture Park and the Peasant Movement Institute.
- The city comprises of a great number of disco houses, KTV bars and massage centers. Life on the streets is not boring at all and there always seems to have something to be busy about.
Safety:
- Crime rate for Guangzhou is high when compared to other cities in China. However, by western standards, it is still a safe place. There are a number of cameras located along the streets with security staff found in almost all building entrances.
