The Life:
Cost of Living: 2
- Oslo is one of the most expensive cities in the world, and has had the dubious honor of being listed as such for a long time. A can of beer will cost you 5$ in the supermarked, a normal meal at Hard Rock Cafe will be 45$~. It is not as expensive to rent/buy property as London or Manhattan, for example, but still one of the most expensive cities in the world in that area, also.
Poker: 6
- There are no casinos in Oslo, but there are a few poker clubs in the central city, where games run from 1-2$ to 5$-10$, and they are usually pretty soft. Both PLO and Hold’em run; often ”around the beach” (both PLO and Hold’em) is the standard game. Online poker legal, although the government has made it so you cannot deposit with or withdraw to a Norwegian VISA.
U.S. Visa/Entry Difficulty Level: 6
- Easy to enter on holiday, relatively difficult to get a working permit.
Language: 8
- Norwegian is the official language, but English is taught thoroughly in school from the age of 7, making it very easy to get around using only English.
Food: 7
- Norway is very international when it comes to food. Tradinitional meals are reindeer (which is absolutely delicious, try it!), whale, meat balls. When out dining in the city most of the restaurants will be Italian, French, American, Japanese etc. It is, however, very expensive to dine in the city, as explained in ”Cost of living”.
Recreation: 7
- Oslo is, considering it’s a capital, a small city. However, it is right by the Oslo-fjord which means that you can wakeboard, go swimming and other do other water activites during summer. During winter the entire fjord is frozen and is a popular spot to go ice skating. Mountains are not far from the city; a 2-hour bus ride will take you to a few great skiing slopes. The night life is very good during summer (winters are cold and although, obviously, night life is running then too, it is less attractive to go party when it’s freezing outside), and, having traveled around the world, I can say with certainty Norwegian girls are among the hottest in the world, and with Swedes coming to the capital to work, it’s Nirvana in terms of womenz.
- In addition to well, being a capital (which means you can do alot of stuff), most of the other major cities aren’t far away and the nature of Norway is known to be very majestic.
