Perth

  • Perth is among the most secluded places in the world. Its location alone makes it unique as it prides in its landscapes. The culture is fascinating as well which are often viewed as eclectic and exotic.

The Life:

  • The city is best described in three words – laid-back, quiet, and finally safe. Its several beaches of very few people actually prove its lifestyle.
  • Most of its residents are found to be living in suburbs near the coast.

Cost of Living:

  • US tourists may need to prepare sums of money. A meal at an inexpensive restaurant may cost $26 while a fast food meal is priced at $7. Meals for two in a midrange restaurant cost $73.
  • Apartment rental costs vary from $900 to $1000 for single-room apartments while apartments with three bedrooms vary from $1000 to $1840.

Poker:

  • Cash poker games in casinos and poker tournaments outside the casinos are legal.

Internet Access:

  • Internet cafes are available along the Barrack Street and others spread in other streets such as the Wellington and William.

Weather:

  • The city has a temperate type of weather similar to that of the Mediterranean. Summers in November to April are normally hot and dry. The hottest days are bearable due to the very low humidity. Winters (from June to August) would be wet and mild.
  • The ideal times to visit Perth are in springtime and autumn season which are from September to November and from March to May accordingly.

U.S. Visa/Entry Difficulty Level:

  • Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) will be required for US citizens. ETA is valid for a year, allowing them to stay for three months. Tourist ETA is free of charge and is usually obtained through travel agents and airline carriers.
  • Travel documents, including a US passport and return flight ticket, are essential as well.

Banking:

  • Banking is convenient with numerous international banks operating in the city. Bank branches include BankWest and Westpac.

Language:

  • English is most prevalent language in the city and is often delivered by friendly Perth locals, usually with a welcoming smile.

Food:

  • One of the things that US tourists must take note about Perth is that they do not offer late night dining. Even during Fridays and Saturdays, there are only very few restaurants that serve food after 10 in the evening.
  • Also, many restaurants do not offer vegetarian meals. If there is, the choices are very limited. Northbridge will have a vast array of restaurants with good European and Asian food selection. The place gets very busy at night as the city starts the party mode.
  • A local specialty is the Western Rock Lobster or known as crayfish which is exported to America at an expensive price.

Recreation:

  • The city centre has pretty much to offer. There are few yet worthwhile attractions around which are half an hour long by car. Outside the city centre, US tourists can take a look at national parks and other fascinating areas.
  • Don’t leave the city without getting in touch with kangaroos. A special place is designated in the zoo just for kangaroos and where US tourists can pay close attention to.
  • Perth prides in owning some of the best beaches in the country. However, sunscreen and insect repellent must not be forgotten.
  • The city is famous for indie music scene. And those who take interest in dance music will love the performances of the top music artists in town.

Safety:

  • Sunburn is the greatest danger that US tourists may experience in Perth. Dehydration is also possible during the summer season.
  • Other than that, the city is relatively safe.
