- Phuket is the largest island of Thailand. It is most famous for its beaches and only a few of its cities are not found on the beach. Aside from its attractive beaches, Phuket takes pride in its small islands as well.
- The wealth of the island is attributed to its tourism. It enjoys such fame in being one of the best travel destinations in the world.

The Life:
- Phuket offers the appeal that comes from being a tropical island. On top of that, it also provides western-country amenities. It is a home to almost all types of people from retirees to working foreigners, etc.
Cost of Living:
- Day to day necessities are cheap but other stuff can be extremely expensive. The cost of living in Phuket actually depends on the kind of lifestyle of tourists.
- There are room accommodations that cost $70 and a decent meal can be as cheap as $1. $1000 a month for US tourists is enough to live abundantly in Phuket.

- Internet speed may not be reliable enough to play online poker.
Weather:
- All throughout the year, Phuket has a hot and humid weather. Typically, the hot seasons starts in March and finishes towards the beginning of May. Daytime will be mostly sunny and nighttime may have occasional rains.
U.S. Visa/Entry Difficulty Level:
- US tourists can stay in Phuket for a month without a visa. Requirements include a valid passport and travel documents. Yellow fever vaccination is required if the visitor comes from an infected area.
Language:
- Thai is the main language spoken in Phuket.
Language Schools:
- The presence of language schools such as Patong Language School, makes learning the language such an interesting and rewarding activity in Phuket.
Food:
- Food in the city is influenced by the many foreigners who travel to the place. The local cuisine is particularly focused on seafood. Other local dishes that tourists must try include fried/boiled noodle dishes and noodles with spicy curry sauce.
- Nam Phrik Kung Siap is another local dish that is made up of dried chili mixed with smoked shrimps and is eaten with fresh vegetables.
Recreation:
- The best recreational activities available in Phuket include scuba diving, snorkeling, yachting and jet-skiing as well as parasailing. More activities are available in the place such as rock climbing. However, US tourists must be careful of the attractions since some could be traps.
- Karaoke bars are available in heavily populated areas with a variety of selection for live music. Locals are friendly enough to join foreigners in these bars and clubs.
Safety:
- With the popularity of the beaches in the island, US tourists are strongly encouraged to take precautionary measures when swimming. Warning flags should always be observed. Cases of drowning are common.
- The crime rate particularly among tourists has recently increased in Phuket. Pickpocketing and muggings are getting popular. US tourists must always be vigilant for such crimes.
