  • Tallinn is the capital city of Estonia. At the heart of the city is its pride, the Toompea hill, which is covered with cobbled streets. It is also full of medieval houses as well as alleyways.
  • Surrounding the place are properly-maintained green parks which are ideal for strolling. The old town of the city is preserved and has been a popular attraction among tourists. The roads have been changed into stylish and creatively designed shopping streets.

The Life:

  • Tallinn is a busy and gleaming metropolis and is home to about 400,000 people. Interestingly, behind the tall buildings as well as corporate buildings, the city has maintained its inner distinct charm that is rarely found anywhere in the world.

U.S. Visa/Entry Difficulty Level:

  • There is no visa required for US tourists traveling to Estonia. Usual requirements apply: valid passport and travel documents.

Language:

  • Estonian is the country’s official language. However, other languages such as Russian, Finnish, German and English, are understood as well as widely spoken in Estonia.

Food:

Recreation:

  • The must-see attractions in Tallinn are too great not to visit. Some of these attractions consist of the Medieval Old Town, the Viru Gate and the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. There are more attractions as US tourists search outside of the old city – Tallinn Zoo, Open Air Museum, and Tallinn TV Tower.
  • There are also beautiful beaches in the city but is regulated by a flag system. A green flag would be a good sign that swimming is safe. A yellow flag tells of the possibility to swim but is not suggested. Red flag shows that it is unsafe to swim. The beaches in Tallinn include Stroomi Beach, Kakumäe Beach and Pikakari Beach.
  • Tallinn presents a variety of sporting opportunities for US tourists like AV rentals and ice skating. A day at a spa in Tallinn is also a part of the holiday to-do-list of many tourists.

Safety:

  • In general, Tallinn is safe. Reports of violence are rare and can only be experienced when searching for trouble. Pickpockets are often found in crowded areas.
  • US tourists must also be aware of possible tourist traps. Some establishments can charge exorbitant prices which should be a warning to every tourist to check what they are up to.
