Valencia, Spain

 

  • Valencia is an old yet charming city of Spain. It takes pride in its cultural identity and is one of the most preferred destinations of international tourists.
  • The city’s pride includes: mild weather, breathtaking beaches as well as one-of-a-kind variety of food.

The Life:

  • Valencia is most known for its exciting nightlife and also boasts in having a pleasant atmosphere during the day.
  • People in the city are friendly and hospitable. They make sure that the comfort of visitors comes first yet they do not pretend and are wonderfully open-hearted.

 

Cost of Living:

  • Cost of food and accommodation is just right in Valencia. Fast food meals cost about $9 each and meals restaurants range from $13 to $28, inexpensive to mid-range type of restaurants.
  • Monthly fitness clubs can cost about $56 and an hour of tennis court rent during weekends cost $15.
  • Apartment rental costs are cheap. The price range is from $300 to $460 for a single-room apartment. Three-bedroom accommodation cost ranges from $600 to $900.

  • Valencia is home to many open poker tournaments in Spain.

 

Internet Access:

  • Internet terminals are present and are priced at about $3/hr, half the cost may be availed in Chinese places. Food chains like McDonalds offer free Wi-Fi.

 

Weather:

  • The type of weather in Valencia is similar to most European countries. It is extremely hot during summer moving many residents to go for vacation. Summer falls in August which does not only bring intense heat but also a high level of humidity.
  • September and November are the city’s most active months. The weather sets a perfect time for beach outings. Temperatures are relatively mild in winter but sunbathing may not be possible.
  • Spring is the loveliest time to visit Valencia. During this time, life spills out in the streets again.

 

U.S. Visa/Entry Difficulty Level:

  • US tourists are allowed to stay in the country up to 90 days without visa. A valid passport plus travel documents needs to be presented.

 

Banking:

  • There is some level of mistrust and suspicion in many banks due to cases of scams and deceits. US tourists must dress up reasonable in order to get rid of possible suspicions. Most international networks will not have problems in cashing out money.
  • Banco de Valencia is one of the banks in the city.

 

Language:

  • The main languages in Valencia are Valencian and Spanish. French may also be spoken by some locals.

 

Language Schools:

  • Spanish language schools are available such as Lingua Valencia. Learning their language will be a great way to connect with its people especially that English is not widely spoken.

 

Food:

  • Local paella is one of the most tasteful rice dishes in the city. It comes in different versions and offers a unique taste every time. Versions range from combining the dish with chicken or rabbit meat, fish or seafood and others.
  • There are other specialties in the city which are worth trying. Bunyols, for example, is nice to try. They are fried doughnuts made special when dipped in hot chocolate.

 

Recreation:

  • Every March, Valencia holds a fantastic festival called Fallas wherein huge papier maché models fill the local areas. Fireworks are also a great part of this celebration.
  • Beaches are worth a try as well. US tourists can check out the Playa de Malvarrosa and some other popular city beaches. The relaxing benefits brought by the hot springs, 90km north of the city, may be tempting too.

 

Safety:

  • Petty crimes are common in Valencia but there are no worries of extreme violence. In general, it is surprisingly a very safe place to visit especially for its size. Theft precautions are strongly advised particularly in beaches.
